Hiking holidays in the Rosental
From our balconies you can see the summits you could be standing on tomorrow. The trailheads are just a few minutes from the house – and in the evening the sauna is waiting.
Hiked ourselves
We walked this route ourselves – the photos are from our hike. It starts in the Bärengraben near Rosenbach: past the little Bären-Hüttn hut, over wooden footbridges along the stream and up through the forest to the alpine meadows.
Up top you follow the border ridge between Austria and Slovenia. On one side Carinthia lies at your feet, on the other you look out over Slovenia. On the Slovenian side lies the Dovška Rožca pasture with a herdsman's hut where you can get refreshments in summer.
A detailed route description with map, walking time and elevation gain is available at Bergwelten (Kleiner Frauenkogel via the Bärengraben). We are happy to tell you the best place to start when you arrive.
Guide values from Bergwelten for the Kleiner Frauenkogel: approx. 1,140 m elevation gain, approx. 7 hours, moderate. You need a sure foot and good footwear.

Hiking season
Valley paths and loops such as the Glückswanderweg are lovely early in the year, with the meadows in bloom. Snow can lie on the summits until early summer.
The alpine pastures are green and the huts are open. It pays to start early: thunderstorms often build up in the mountains in the afternoon.
Quieter trails, pleasant temperatures and often especially clear views – for many the best time for hiking. According to Bergwelten the Klagenfurter Hütte on the Kosiak is open until October.
After the hike
Back at the house, swim a few easy lengths, warm up in the Finnish sauna and end the day on your south-facing balcony – looking at the ridge you stood on at noon.
Then the rucksack stays in the apartment and you head for the indoor pool: swimming, Finnish sauna and warm cabin – in the house and included in the price.
Walks start right in Schlatten. For the mountain tours, drive just a few minutes to Rosenbach or St. Jakob, where the trails begin.
